I just got done reading Armada by Ernest Cline. It's no Ready Player One, but it did provide me with an epiphany. For a couple weeks now I've been worried about my next book because every idea that I have is similar to something else. Armada is basically just a snarky and self-aware version of Ender's Game and it really didn't pretend to not be. It was a different world and a different voice, however, and so I think it worked. It let me realize what I already knew, which is that your basis doesn't have to be totally original as long as your story and your characters are. I love the characters in Sudden Onset Evolution and I like the world I created. I'm going to go with the idea that I want to write and I'll let the trollz have their way with me.
Of course, from the lack of reviews I prolly won't have to worry about that!
